D-19 and HIE

OK, first off... The combination is way squirrely.
That means bracketing is a must (I do AT least 3 exposures +1, 0, &
- -1). The limited contrast range on its own would basically necessitate
that, but combine it with the unpredictability of HIE and you have
exposure HELL.
That said....
I process with D-19 1:1.
Daylight exposure is approx ISO 320 metered ambient (tungsten is 400 ISO
minimum). Or about 1250-1600 TTL through a red filter (tungsten is
1600-2500).
Development time is 10 minutes @ 20C. I usually do a clip test first
and vary my development time accordingly. Keep in mind that if you are
shooting for a significant period of time during the day, that IR will
vary and your clip test on one roll may not be indicative of the entire
shoot.
One thing to keep in mind with ultra-high contrast processing like this
is that the "Bulletproof" (dense) negatives may be some of your best
images. (the contrast range is severely reduced)...
I like the graininess and contrast D-19 imparts..
If you want to see some brief examples... Check out the fine-art section
of our web-site. There are currently two pages of IR imagery there.
