IR filter for film gate

Somebody on the net mentioned to me that they use a thin IR filter gel that 
can be taped across the film gate of an slr behind the shutter.

Has anyone heard of such a thing?  I'd like to buy some of this material 
(preferably in the USA) for use in my P67.
