It sounds like your shutter is sticking, not closing all the way. I
recently had the same problem with an old Minolta XG-1. The problem only
happened at speeds slower than 1/125. Open the back and test fire several
times at various speeds. You may notice the curtain doesn't return all the
way. I don't know much about cameras, but my friend Joe Paduano took a look
at it for me and showed me this was the case.
My XG-1 was almost 20 years old, so I decided it wasn't worth repairing.
You can get a new X370s for $150 from B&H (www.bhphotovideo.com). The
difference between the X370s and the X700 is that the X370s does not have
Program Mode, and does not have an exposure compensation dial (-2 to +2).
