Anyone used the "fixed" NightShot camcorders yet?

I'm curious if anyone has used the "fixed" versions of the Sony
NightShot camcorders that are supposed to only work in IR in the
dark. Anyone know what they did to keep the feature from working
in daylight, and whether this damage can be worked around?

I'd been considering buying one before the much-hyped
seeing-through-clothes nonsense, but since my use for the IR
sensitivity would be for previewing scenes in daylight, I
wouldn't have any use for it if Sony really did break that
feature effectively.

I suppose if I wait a while I should be able to find good prices
on used pre-"fix" models when people find out the hype about
X-ray vision is mostly bunk. But for now, all I see is
new-in-box camcorders selling for well over list price.
