As you say, most CCD video's are sensitive into the IR section of the
spectrum.
But after having seen the effect from both non-"nightshot" and "nightshot"
cameras
believe me that the "Nightshot" is much better. Also the Sony ones with the
foldout
screen make a lot of difference as well. When we bought our I was reluctant
to pay
the extra for the screen, but now very rarely use the eyepiece. you get a
much better
idea of the image on the screen.
So I would recommend "Nightshot" if possible, but don't buy one if you have
a different
one that works.

As for the sensitivity of the camera I have tried on a few occasions to find
out what it
is, all I can say is that it extends well beyond 1000nm as we often use it
with a BW094
filter and it shows no sign of darkening. If anyone knows what wavelengths
it is
sensitive upto I would be grateful.
