Effect of tele-converters on IR focusing.

I'm considering purchasing a 1.4x or 2x teleconverter when I buy my new
kit... which will be largely used for IR photography. I'm concerned about
the IR focusing marks on the lens however, and whether or not they'll be
accurate once the teleconverter is in place. Honestly, I'd prefer to buy
the 100-220 zoom in addition to the 45-90 lens I'm planning on, but the
100-200 doesn't have any IR marks at all and I really hate "winging it" and
praying that a large depth-of-field will hide any misfocusing. So, will
the teleconverter take care of the extra length I need on occasion, or am I
barking up the wrong tree...

D.
