Listen to yourself man. You hold your own answer within these
lines I qouted above.

I'm from Singapore. Which is as you know right beside your
country and I can attest to the fact of how expensive HIE is in Asia.
And of the sad lack of trustworthy places we, as students, can
safely and cheaply send our rolls to for developing/printing. In fact I
only know of a handful of places within Asia which actually have
someone who is knowledgeble enough to work with HIE. Most
places will just turn you down since they haven't got the relevant
expertise.

I suggest you don't try this UNLESS you have a lot of experience
printing/developing HIE on your own. Beacause the fellow whos
said that HIE has a few quirks is wrong, it has a LOT of quirks,
moreso than any film I've had the chance to work with, it's not as
easy as you'd like it to be in terms of handling.

I say, since this is your shot at your degree, that you don't spend
this year experimenting/learning about how to shoot, print and
develop HIE and not have a degree at the end of it all. Mom and
dad didn't pay that much money and you didn't spend all that time
just so you could risk it at the end.

And who says you can't work creatively with boring old color negs?
or normal B&W. You see I've found most amatuer photographers
*like myself when i started* at the start have this seeming
reverance for the weird films like they'll add , magically, some
dimension to your photographs that otherwise would have made a
boring picture.

That's why I see people who have just started photography and
start shooting only slides, and having lots of terrible just-starting-
out photographs when they still haven't got the feel/timing and
understanding of exposure to be able to make technically sound
photographs. A guy just starting out with photography who's
probably cash strapped already, should use boring old color negs
to be safe and learn about photography

SO the moral is here, stick to something safe my friend, some film
that you've worked with before and know how to get the best
results out of, you've got a degree on the line here. It isn't worth the
risk.

See I use mostly Fuji Superia 200 these days, *I love it's
pastel/creamy colors and the fact that it's cheap here* and most
people say I'm a pretty decent shooter.

It's not the film that makes the pic, it's YOU my friend, YOUR the
one that makes it interesting

However what I DO recommend is, over here HIE is about $6 USD
which can get me 3 rolls of Superia 200 or Kodak 100 film, or I can
get 2 rolls of HP5 *I simply am in LOVE with this film*

All that for one roll of HIE, with all the extra rolls yo have, your
succes rate of getting an amazing photograph improve. And isn't
that the whole idea of your course? being able to create a good
image?

ok I'm not a total bastard :)

For the sake of trying things out, why not buy a few rolls of HIE and
just for the heck of it bring along 1 or 2 rolls each time you do a
shoot and just try it out for the fun of it, so that with each shoot you
have some photo's taken with a film you can trust, and a few
photos with HIE : P

;) )

That way you've got nothing to lose, and everything to gain

Do I make sense?

:) )

As they say in the Philipines
