Web gallery/catalog tools?

Not specifically IR related, but: I notice quite a few IR list
members have very nicely done web galleries with thumbnails
linked to full-sized jpegs of each photo, and I was wondering 
what tools people use for doing this.  I can of couse do it by
hand and manually edit the html, but is there any sort of
reliable automated tool that will take a directory full of jpegs
and generate a directory page with thumbnails?  It seems like
exactly the sort of tedious, repetitive work that a simple
program would excel at.

(I ask because I finally broke down and bought a new compter,
after 6+ years with my last one, so I can actually scan several
photos in a row without having to reboot windows :-)
