Actually, I've done quite a bit of action shooting with HIE and a
no.87, though I haven't gotten around to putting any on my web
page yet. This summer I got some wonderful action shots of a
vintage motorcycle rally -- the headlights and running lights of
the bikes show up as giant balls of fire, and there's nice
halation around the gleaming chrome.

For these action shots I used an 87 between the film rails gel
filter, manual focus, and no focus compensation, just kept the
aperture small enough to have good depth of field.

I've also gotten some good pictures while boating, using an old
Olympus rangefinder with an 87 or 87C filter. Again, I just keep
the aperture fairly small and keep infinity barely in focus,
leaving very good depth of field.

As for auto-focus, I don't own any auto-focus film cameras, but
my video camera's autofocus continues to work properly even with
something as dark as an 87A, and with a lighter filter like an
87C or 87, it's as fast as using it filterless.
