New member - Konica HEXAR info

- Name: Doug Thompson
- State, Country: California, USA
- Personal history of photography: I started taking pictures about 15 years
ago, but started seriously (new Nikon FM2, lenses, Konica HEXAR) about 7
months ago. IR film was the main reason that I decided to begin to really
get into photography, and I haven't been disappointed. Great film!
- Preferred subjects: Feeling of place, discarded objects and empty places,
general industrial decay, architecture, tourists and tourist spots.
- Film: Exclusively B&W: Kodak HIE, T400CN, TMax; Ilford XP2, FP4 Plus, HP5
Plus. I don't do my own developing or printing yet, sadly.
- Format: 35mm-- Nikon FM2, Konica HEXAR
- Other strange hobbies: Psychoanalytic film studies (Zizek, Lacan, Freud)
- How did you find out about this list: Web surfing. No web page yet, but
soon.
- Expand on anything photographic you like: I shoot all my HIE with a
Konica HEXAR. It seems that not many people realize that the HEXAR
autofocuses for infrared film. It has setting for either Konica or Kodak
film. It is a rangefinder with a 35mm fixed lens, Auto, Aperature
Priority, and Manual exposure modes, and an OTL metering system. I love
this camera because I can shoot with an 87C filter (rangefinder) with the
ease of a point and shoot, with the manual overrides for tricky lighting.
The lens is great and the results are fantastic. I built a device which
places an 87C gel filter over the OTL meter, and get nearly perfect
exposures WITHOUT BRACKETING! I rate the film at 6400 with the filter to
get very contrasty pics and down to 3200 to get more even grey tones.
