Ilford lists the appropriate filter usage for VC papers and colour heads in
the instruction sheet that comes with the paper.
For starts, zero filtration is about grade 2. Yellow decreases contrast,
magenta increases contrast. I have, over time, kind of stopped using the
contrast grading system, and just dial in the degree of contrast needed by
the particular neg I am printing.
Grab a neg, go into the darkroom and play with the filter pack. The best way
to learn is to see what happens when you vary the filtration
