120 Backing Paper is Opaque to IR light

120 backing paper is opaque to IR light.  I know this from experience
since I cut down 70mm IR film to fit onto 120 film spools.  One of the
biggest benefits of doing this is that you can load B&W IR film in
subdued light (such as 75 watt tungsten bulbs); the larger negative
also helps reduce the appearance of grain.

Who ever told you that the backing paper is not IR opaqe, didn't know
what they were talking about. Howver I'm sure if you loaded this film
is sunlight you'd probably get edge fogging.
