Other than normal handling percautions for any chemical (mentioned by
others), one of the things about Selenium toner is that it gives off
large amounts of Ammonia gas (at least, the one I use does).  You can't
exactly miss it - the smell is very pungent - so it's essential that
selenium toning is done in a *well* ventilated room.  I usually do it in
my bathroom, closing the door and opening the window wide.  Given the
choice between frostbite and being gassed, I've chosen the former...
