You are quite right. However, my "advice" simply was that the material attached
to the film pressure plate should be of uniform thickness ... gaffer tape makes
me shudder. My suggestion was backing paper from 120 film. Apparently others
are using that too. You could use any number of other materials but they should
absorb IR, they should generally be fairly thin and also be easy to remove.
BTW, the placement of filter material between the film plane rails was
a suggestion that I believe I initially made in an article that appeared in the
Photo Society of America Journal sometime in the 70's. The title of the article
was Action Infrared Photography. ;-) ;-) ;-)
