Fiction, unless the foam around that window has deteriorated badly.
I have shot with several cameras that hat a) a plastic back and b) a
film window, and none ever leaked the slightest bit of IR.
Even Russian plastic doesn't leak IR, as is proven on my Horizon 202.
The origin of this IR urban myth is quite simple: frame-counting
windows on 120-format cameras....the ones that would even fog 220
format! (because 220 doesn't have a paper backing).
I know this 'warning' might still be in the IR-FAQ, written by David
Rosen, but even he confirmed to me that he only did so out of
precaution, without actual evidence of the contrary. And that is how
most people come across this idiosyncrasy....
