I'm told that it's due to slight differences in manufacturing.  I guess
they figure that they don't have to aim the emitter precisely.

If you'd like to toss a roll through my Elan II to prove it to yourself,
you're welcome to do it.  I'll stick with my original rebel, or better yet
my Bronica.
