- Name: Sherri

- Profession/Study: I am currently a 20 year old electrical engineering
student hoping to
specialize in optics. Beyond my engineering studies, however, I am
persuing a degree in photography. This summer I am taking a 4x5 view
camera class for which we are required to submit a portfolio at the end
of the semester upon a chosen topic. After much thought and
investigation, I have decided to broadly focus upon large format
infared photography and my research led me to join this mailing list.

- Country: USA

- Personal history of photography: My photographic background began in
my sophmore year of highschool when I was forced to take a photography
class for the simple reason that it was the only one that would fit
into my schedule. With admitted skepticism, I began a course and met
an instructor that would later change the direction and course of my
life. After the first semester, I gained a interest and appreciation
for the subject that led me to continue the second semester and
eventually take a senior portfolio class. My highschool instructor
taught photography at the local community college and also inspired me
to take dual enrollment seminars and night classes in both black &
white and color. This interest evolved into a passion and here I am
today five years later and a sophmore in
college.

- Preferred subjects: fine art portraiture, abstract still life, macro,
environmental, &
architectural

-Least favorite subjects: journalism & sports photography

- Materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry): I have printed and
developed in both B&W and
color, but contrary to many serious photographers, I prefer color. I am
also intrigued with alternatve processes and techniques. One of my
favorite techniques is "painting with light" using multiple flash
exposures and colored gels. Of the slide films, I've been very pleased
with Fuji Sensia for its vibrant, saturated color.

- Format (35mm/medium format/large format): So far I've primarily done
35 mm work and some medium format (120). I am currently taking my
first large format class and am very excited about the possibilites.
Infared intrigues me and I am very pleased to have found this list with
others who share my interests.

- Other strange hobbies: astronomy, science fiction and fantasy
(literature & film), & electronic music

- How did you find out about this list: Research for a
photography class
