RE: Best Prices for IR 70mm HIE film

Someone asked about getting the best prices for
70mmx150' bulk spools of film.  There are only a few
places that you can mail order this film from and the
price of this film seems to change every five or six
months.  I was able to get this film for $150 three
years ago, now the cheapest I've gotten it for is
$195.

You can order this film from any local camera store
that will place a special order for you.  However, my
experience is that local camera shops almost always
charge you Kodak's list price for this film which is
around $220 now a days.

I would recommend buying this film from Unique Photo.
They are located in New Jersey and have 70mm HIE for
about $200, and they are an
authorized Kodak dealer. If you tell them you found it
cheaper at another store, they will sell it for $195.
If Kodak has the film in stock it will take less than
two weeks for you to get your film.

B&H in NYC has 70mm HIE for $200,(It was $180 a few
months ago) but they are not an authorized Kodak
dealer. Therefore if you have pinhole problems with
the film, or other
manufacturing defects, Kodak, will give you the cold
shoulder. In addition since B&H has to buy this film
on the black market it takes them 4 to 6 weeks to get
it to you. My conclusion is that the film spent that 4
to 6 weeks in uncontrolled conditions, perhaps it was
in a hot truck for one week.  I've bought several
rolls from B&H in the past, but no longer buy through
them because of quality concerns.

Digital Link in Atlanta is also another source, but
they are not cheap, however they have good customer
service.  Digital Link on the
other hand is usually very fast, and usually has the
film in stock.
