If you want to photograph an object that is fluorescing and is being excited by
UV (such as you are doing) I would suggest that you place a UV blocking filter
on your lens and meter in the "reflected" mode ... right through your camera's
lens. You may want to add some exposure if you want something to look brighter
than 18% grey or a midtone.

Since the fluorescence is visible ... your meter, that is designed to meter
"visible" should work fine.
