Don't worry mate ;)

Actually WJ, I BEG to differ ;)
For Nikon users there's no need to discuss things for hours on end.
I don't know about brand C users like you ; P maybe they don't
look after you guys so well, they DID put an infrared film counter in
their bodies ;)
Kevin, Nikon lenses do NOT have a red IR focussing dot.
But they do have a WHITE one. Go look at your lens barrel, there
should be a white dot on the barrel just beside a long white stripe,
should look like this
o |
Focus on your subject, the stripe represents visible light focus.
Move the focussing ring by the distance that lies between dot and
the stripe ( works better if you actually mark the area on the
focussing ring directly in front of the stripe, so you know exactly
how much to move the focussing ring ) Move it that distance
towards the dot . That is the correct focus for IR.
On zoom lenses, there will be a range on the lens barrel, indicating
the zoom length of the lens barrel, say a 28-70 lens, the lines will
have 2 markings, one for 28 & another for 70 , if you used any
zoom length in between , you'd have to do some guesswork, but
the principal is still the same. One way around it is to use only the
wide & long end of the lens.
Hope this helps :)
Yours sincerely,
Ket
