87 filter with Konica??

I tried using the 87 filter for the first time instead of the red 25 and I 
got a blank roll!  Since it couldn't have been from him bringing out the 
Konica canister into the light real quick I'm assuming I didn't know how to 
use the 87 filter the right way!  Since it was totally opaque I made sure the 
pictures I took were not in the shade and all.... 
How do you use the 87 then?   Can anyone help?  ;-)
