Charles,
There may be problems with Riteway/Fidelity or other film holders
transmitting IR rays, but I don't recall having any. You may get more
information from some of the others on this list.
Several people here use the Grafmatic, which is a special sheet film holder
that holds six sheets rather than two. They were originally developed for
press photographers so they could "shoot fast" in the days when the press
camera of choice was the Speed Graphic rather than the Nikon or Leica.
Besides speed, one Grafmatic takes up less space in your camera bag than
three Riteways and is a bit lighter in weight. Without film, one Grafmatic
weighs 466 grams; 3 Riteways weigh 538 grams; older Graphic holders are
slightly heavier.
Grafmatics were made for 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 film as well as 4x5. A more
primitive holder made for the Graflex SLR cameras even held 5x7 film. There
were similar film holders from other manufacturers. One that I have used is
the Kinematic, which held ten sheets rather than six.
Grafmatics are great to use, but hardly essential. I use them for all my
4x5 film, color and B&W, primarily so I can carry more film in less space.
Cheers,
Bill
