Diff. IR strengths & their metering

I more than had feeling 'bout this mate ;) explains why filter factors 
for the R72 could be like 2 1/3 in tungsten & 6 1/3 - 6 2/3 for a 
daylight seaside compostion. This raises an interesting question.

What do you folks recommend in terms of braketing to ensure you 
get the exposure for something you can't miss? 

I don't think the usual 1/3 stop is good enough, how about 1 full 
stop ?
