I assume you are using your Alden loader in daylight?
That might be the cause of problem #1 as well....
Try loading the next roll in the dark (using the Alden for
convenience is okay of course, just be sure to keep it dark while
cranking and cutting, until you can put the newly-loaded cartridge in
either cannister or in the magazine right away.
