Ilford SFX 200

Hi Fellow Infra reders

A chap at work has given me a roll of Iford SFX 200
which he picked up cheap in a local camera store.

It's slightly out of date, but the chappy in the shop
told him to bung on a red filter and fire away.

Does anyone know what kind of effect he means.

Is it a near infra red effect of maybe something 
different.

If anyone  can help, that be great!!
