To Clive and the group,
I have shot, or rather tested HSI over the last thirty years. I never used
the film because I could not beat the pinhole problem. AFAIK, Kodak had the
problem from day one.
Now, more good and bad(?) news about the new HSI.
Since the stuff is so had to load, I decided to do a fingerprint test. I
photographed some flowers on a lot of black background. In the darkroom, I
really put my clean, dry but bare fingers all over the emulsion. I thought
when I processed the film it would look like a police blotter.
No! The film was clear and spot-free! Tomorrow, I will try to run a test on
a white ground.
The bad news is that the film seems to be shedding dye in the developer.
After processing a mere ten sheets in a gallon of new D-76, the soup has a
noticeable gray pallor. It is like the magenta cast TMX leaves in fixer. I
presume the same benign thing is happening here; that some layer is
dissolving, but it does not change the effectiveness of the solution.
Anybody ever hear of this one?
