The focus problems were probably not caused by a lack of IR correction but
by the fact that you removed a piece of glass between the lens and the CCD.
An alternative solution would have been to insert filter glass of similar
thickness where the IR-blocking filter was. (A visible-light blocking
filter perhaps.)
