Why do you think that it will "obviously" let in IR radiation.  Both my
Nikon 6006 and 8008 have these windows and I have never had problem one with
them.  Covering it with electrical tape won't hurt anything, but it won't do
anything either.  Take the tape off and don't worry about it.
