Dear All,

The subject of changing bags is a lovely old chestnut. After several
flurries of mail on the subject the overall winner seemed to be a bag with
a brand name of Kalt(?). From the description of the bag, these seem to be
the same as the current offerings from the Jessops photo store chain here
in the UK.

Jason, your bag may be a different brand to the current bags stocked by
Jessops. The current bags, large and small, do not have a rubberised
interior and are IR proof.

However the bags have one critical design flaw - the seams are not
correctly finished off, allowing the edges to fray. This happened to me
with two bags bought from Jessops last year. After several instances of
threads across 4x5 negs I took the bags back. Jessops were very good about
it - they replaced the wasted film and refunded the money for the
bags....... then put the bags back on sale!

The moral of the story - before you buy a new changing bag, turn it inside
out and inspect the seams. If you can see the "edge" of the material then
it will fray - reject the bag.

All the best,
