Maco IR 820 developed

Hi there,
A few days ago my dealer gave two of the new Maco films to me. I
supposed they were pre-production but he insisted that they were from
regular production already (end of January!) Well, I think he was wrong.
While impatiently waiting for the sun to come out for days, today I was
lucky. So I exposed a Maco IR and a Kodak HIE simulanously for
comparison: set exposure index to 800 ASA, matrix metering through a
dark red filter #29 and bracketing +/- 2 steps for each picture. I
developed both together in ID-11 (1:1) for 11 minutes. (Rinsed with
clear water first, but that doesnīt harm the HIE.)
>From first inspection (films are still drying) I can tell a few things:
The Maco is fogged on the first few windings, which seems to be the same
effect that Marco Pauck(?) told us about. Thatīs why I think it is
pre-production film.
The third frame (EI 200) of the Maco looks about as dense as the second
(EI 800) of the Kodak film. Still, there is a visible difference in
contrast. I hope I can tell more later.
I wasnīt sure about developing time for the Maco film, but after
comparing Xtol time for Maco and HIE I decided to give it a try and put
them together. (The Maco data sheet tells nothing about ID-11.)
Finally: I feel good. :-)
Bye, Martin.
