Re: Maco IR 820 developed

I should probably relay my experiences so far on the maco film also.

I ran through a couple rolls of the 820 myself. I bracketed the first
starting at f/11 and 1/125sec and bracketed +/- 2 stops. I've never been a
big fan of using my meter for IR, I still question the sense in it. This was
through a 29 red filter. The density was about .92 (around 3 stops) on the
f/11 1/30sec exposure. This was the slowest of the 5 exposure bracket. This
looked the best thus far. I developed in X-Tol 1+1 for 12 minutes (just a
rough guess).

So the next roll I exposed the same (sunny winter day) and developed for 12
minutes in X-Tol straight for 12 minutes. I did this to give me another 2
stops of density hoping the middle frame would look more usable. It didn't.
I just got a jump in contrast (duh!). This amounted to about a full grade on
paper.

So I figure that I need to expose it at 1 to 2 stops more for a decent
exposure with the 29 red. But of course the 29 red doesn't give a good ir
effect, as previously noted by other members of the list, so I'll get an 89b
filter from Clive, and adjust my exposure time as needed.

For the record, each of the rolls I've developed so far have had the fogging
on the leader, but the reloadable cartridges it was packaged in will be
useful.
