Laurie A. Smith
I am an Adjunct Instructor in Photography, Art Dept., State University of
New York at Oswego, Oswego, NY, US.
I took an introductory black and white photo class in 1988 at age 37 and
never looked back, going on to earn a master's degree and teach the
subject. I work almost exclusively with 35 mm Kodak HIE but am also crazy
about pinhole photography and hope to combine the two obsessions this
summer, as I now have a 120 format roll film pinhole camera. I have been
working with 4 X 5 sheet film pinhole cameras with panchromatic film, but I
hear large format IR film is a problem because of light leaks in the film
holders. I have made pinhole cameras out of many things, including ammo
boxes, plastic film cannisters, a mail box, a sneaker (not very successful)
and a cardboard refrigerator box.
I am not much of a "people photographer", preferring to shoot landscapes,
buildings, and various inanimate objects. I plan to experiment with Konica
750 and Ilford SFX 200 this coming year to see if I like their effect
without the drawbacks I've found in the Kodak film.
