I would like to make a comparison between Kodak and a supermarket.  
Supermarkets routinely provide "loss leaders" in their stores, to entice 
customers who then will, apparently, purchase enough other goods to justify 
the loss on the leader.  I would assume that Kodak HIE customers are 
generally pros or upscale amateurs who probably purchase other photo products 
than HIE - and probably quite an amount of it.  To incremental-cost their way 
out of various marginal profit or loss areas will cost Kodak much more in the 
long run due to a shrinking customer base.  "Penny-wise, Pound-foolish".
