Re: Quad-Tones
A few points to consider:
1: Fade resistant does not necessarily equal archival, it just lasts longer
than ordinary ink which will last only a few weeks in the wrong light.
2: As good as the prints are from an inkjet printer (and the photo-quality
Epsons are VERY impressive!) you should always compare them to a good
quality print of the same image. I still prefer photographs although I have
gone digital to some extent getting commercial scans and Pegasus prints
(photographic paper, there are other digital printers that use photographic
paper as well)
3: It is easier to manipulate tones and hold tricky highlight or shadow
detail digitally.
4: OK so you say #2 is rather expensive, but on the subject of cost, look
at the cost of printer + consumables and compare them to BW consumables
(assuming you have a darkroom) I use the pegasus prints mainly for colour
work and it actually works out cheaper than professional lab printing.
5: It all depends on what you want to use your images for and how much
you're prepared to pay for the quality you need. Personally I still think
BW photographic paper is better than any of the digital methods mentioned
above.
Cheers
Ben
