Can you not get a Lee 87C polyester filter (or kodak Gelatine, but these are
more fragile) from them or elsewhere?

If so, buy a (any type, UV0 is best) Hoya 43mm filter.  They are held in by
a brass retaining ring which can be removed with a little practice.  Once
the glass is out, use it as a template on the filter sheet/film and cut with
a scalpel or other very shrp knife.  You can then replace the glass, add the
87C to the inside and replace the retaining ring and it will hold the gel in
place.

In theory it will not give the best opticial quality but I have never had
any problems with the quality on all the filters I have made this way.  I
use them on all formats (35mm to 5x4), as you would be suprised how short a
filter will last in the hands of students.  It also makes the filters a lot
cheaper and easier to get hold of.  When I ordered the B+W 094 It took about
4 months to arrive.

PS Might you also be able to get a stepdown ring if you find a larger
filter?
