Education on IR ! ! !

I just found this reply to a lecture's querry on IR film. I am please to
see that the lecture who posted it said he know very little about the film
(if only my lecturer had said that I would have save a few rolls !), but the
thing that frightens me is that this reply is from another lecturer who is a
'expert' !
<With regard to true IR photography in b/w use Kodak HIE. Go on line to
Kokak, Profession Products, search for HIE 135 Infra Red Film. You will get
excellent advice on exposure and development.>
Not my experience.
<What else you need to know is the film's sensitivity! It is sensitive to
Ultra Violet, Blue, Red, and Infra red out to about 900nm or possibly a bit
more.
Since it is "seeing UV and Blue, you must subract them using a Red (A25)>
Have I had it wrong all these years? (Anyway I would of thought a yellow
would subtract the UV and blue better than the red which will of course work
I guess!)
<Color IR film, Infra Red Ektachrome, is made like any other chrome film
except that the red layer is sensitive to red and infra red.>
So why should a red (with no IR reflectance) go green!
I hope this makes you laugh.
Jason
