D76, for instance, contains sodium sulfite, which eats away at the edges of the
grain clusters.

Though sodium sulfite is added as a preservative, it definitely eats away at
the grain. At home I have a formula for High-Acutance D76, which leaves the
sodium sulfite out. The results are quite different.
