I've always used Kodak's stop bath at its recommended strength and have never
had a problem with pinholes with HIE. Not using stop not only makes your
development time problematic, but also reduces the life of your fix. There is
a good reason for using it, so I'm not entirely certain why your teachers would
have you skip an important basic step in the process.
