Re: Pinholes?? In MY negatives?? Update
basically developer in B&W is a basic solution, you want an acid stop bath to neutralize it. you can use water, but acetic acid is more acidic than water. this won't produce pinholes in the film if mixed correctly. I've been using the Kodak indicator stuff for 30 years.
except for bubbles caused by air bubbles due to improper agitation in the tank, the pinholes here are a manufacturing defect.
now, there could be problems with the water where you live which is another story.
depending on how far you want to get into it, photographic chemistry is not that difficult. there are lot of books out there. its harder to find the basic materials to mix your own developers now than it used to be (though there are web sites that sell stuff), but its an enjoyable sidelight to photography.
using water as a stop really doesn't have a lot of science behind it, for most emulsions and most developing.
the best book (and out of print and in French, though if anybody knows otherwise, I would be grateful - I studied under him) was Scientific Photography by Gerard DeVaucouleurs. its been 22 years so I think I have the name spelt right. the title is in French. I don't want to mangle that on an international list.

Man am I sticking my neck out here, because technical is NOT my area of
expertise, but I never use stop bath with film developing because it can
produce pinholes....is this just another tidbit from my teachers that I now
have to unlearn because it...has holes??
