Re: Nikon D1 and Coolpix 990
"What could happen if I a regular photo is shot while there is no infrared
filter (when it had been removed manually)?"
In color mode here is an over abundence of red which is rather ugly in my
opinion. In b&w mode it looks just like IR B&W film.
"Removing a IR Filter seems possible to me (with a risk damaging the
camera), but slightly moving the CCD .....
Have you done this on a camcorder?"
Obviously you have never taken apart a digital camcorder/camera. IF you have
a moderate amount of repair experience removing the IR blocking filter is an
easy task with most digital camcorders and cameras. Of course if you don't
know what you're doing you risk damaging the camera, but that's rather
obvious. What's so hard about moving a CCD? Most of them are screwed onto a
frame with washers or some sort of spacers that can be removed and even if
this isn't the situation any repair person with a little inginuity could
move a CCD assembly with a little work. Most CCD's dont' have to be moved
anyways.
And yes I've modified a JVC GRDV1 digital camcorder to give a very nice IR
preview and recording capabilities.
Peace Rolland
