Just returned from a trip to SF and San Jose . . . . .
Aim for Route 1, Ocean Drive I think they call it, or Cabrillio Highway,
can't remember now, its the most stunning drive I've ever taken, just
watch out for sea mist, I was there last Saturday and it was cold, right
from Half Moon Bay to just north of Big Basin Redwood City, I've got some
IR pics waiting to be processed from around there. Carry on down further
south to Monterey and Carmel, some great locations around there, 17 Mile
Drive just south of Carmel is worth the $7.50 to drive around it, some
wonderful coastal locations and some magnificent buildings too, once
you've done that another drive down to Big Sur recommended by Andy Finney
and definitely by me now! As mentioned before, Redwoods are stunning to
look at but cut out way too much light, 100ASA film in the camera and I
easily managed a 10sec f11 exposure without filters at 5:00pm on a sunny
day! Although I found some stunning scenery while driving on the
interstates, mainly on I17, if you come off the roads and just drive
around you'll find all sorts of wonderful views, the Old Santa Cruz
Highway is worth driving down, as mentioned before route 9 too, if
driving south take 280, not 101, its a much better route to drive down,
the Vista Point turn off will take you to route 35, another one worth
driving along to look for spectacular scenery!
Closer to SF, well closer to San Jose, aim for Los Gatos and take route
9 to Boulder Creek, its the kind of place the time forgot, the newest
building seems to date from the 60's, worth looking around, all sorts of
potential, just south of Boulder Creek there's an old old car sat on the
side of the road, I've no idea what model it is but definitely dates from
the 20's!

Calumet in downtown SF, already mentioned, I've no idea how to get to it,
but their website does have directions. I ended up at Keeble and Shuchat
in California Ave, Palo Alto, which in my opinion is an excellent store,
they even had what looked like the full range of Wratten filters in
stock, including the 87C that I bought there.
