This is the scientific use to which I was earlier referring.  For some people,
the ability to distinguish between small color differences is very important,
and E4/AR-5 is necessary for this.  Anyone wishing to do their own E4
processing would be well advised as to its complexity - the list of necessary
chemicals should be enough to ward off nearly everyone. <g>

Fortunately, for the casual photographer, like most of us here, the minor
coloration differences that allow one to distinuish tree types is not an issue.
 In this case, one can develop their own E6 slides without too much difficulty.
 It isn't as good an answer as E4/AR-5, but at least it is possible (not the
case with the older variety).
