Metering question

Recently I took a trip to the Washington coast and
decided to shoot some Konica 750 of some cliffs and
such. Now, I figured that I had my metering down
pretty well around my home town and applied the same
to the coast. None of my shots turned out.
Underexposed. The conditions were bright sun, no
clouds, #87 filter. Would the sand or water play a
part in this? I previewed with my camcorder and all
looked dandy. Any thoughts?
