I've also used Techpan (HC110 1:9 6'00")for making interpositives for
scanning. Rather than contact printing I use a slide duplicating set up. I
also use this for scanning most of my 120 Konica negs which don't quite fit
into my Coolscan ;-). Getting the processing right for transparencies can
be a little tricky but it is possible to get consistent results once
everything is set up.
This method (interpositive and scanning) retains as much tonal detail (and
occasionally more) as I can produce in a print and provides better quality
scans than scanning prints on a desktop scanner. I'm not overly keen on
using BW film for transparencies though because of the lack of density. I
prefer to get my scans put out to real slide film on a film recorder. A 6Mb
scan will produce very nice 35mm slides and you can also do some digital
toning.
