Of course, photographic materials and even IR sensitive digital cameras or
camcorders are incapable of detecting the wavelengths that one would wish to
record while conducting heat loss studies from roofs. Therefore, I would
suggest that if you somehow do figure out a way to do it using film your fee is
definitely too low!
But, from the drift of your complete message and your reference to plunking
down $18K or thereabouts I suspect you are talking about investing in a
portable Inframetrics Thermal IR camera system. That is just what is needed.
As far as pricing is concerned I can not give you a definite guideline but if I
recall you or friends are in the roofing business yourselves ... would you hire
an outside contractor for maybe $500 to $1,000 per day to do inspections on
speculation? Would one of your customers hire an outside crew to check out
their roof for maybe $500?
Individual homeowners may not be willing to shell out that kind of money but I
would suspect that corporations would since a lot more is riding on them having
a problem-free roof ... they tend to have bigger and more expensive roofs!
