Just checked the arhives as I was surprised you found no previous 
discussion.  Using the search terms "konica discontinue" there were 
33 hits of which two were my posts to the list.

One of these, posted on Tue, 20 Jun 2000, summarises the position as 
stated to me by the most senior management person in Konica UK who 
would speak to me:
