The 1270 does a very good job with b/w.  I just printed an IR shot (see,
it's on topic!) on Epson heavyweight matte paper, and it looks as good as
what i could do in the darkroom (Actually better, IMHO).   To get neutral
tones, you may have to play around a bit with duotones in Photoshop, but it
isn't difficult.
