I have shot IR (HIE) for many years in Minolta SLR's, SR-T 101, X-570, X-700 and
never had a problem with the "un-smooth" pressure plate. Others on this list
have similar experience. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You could look in any decent camera store that accepts trade-ins for good, used
lenses. New lenses are available at B&H in New York City and other places.
