Be careful with the X-700 and IR films, especially Kodak HIE. AFAIK the
X-700 doesn't have a metal blade shutter but some rubber coated
horizontally travelling curtain like the one that is used in the x-370
too. Some time ago I owned two x-370 bodies myself. One of them (the
older one...) was suitable for IR, the other wasn't: Obviously the
shutter coating wasn't IR proof, so the film got fogged. :-(
Before looking for a smooth pressure plate and another lens, I'd
strongly recommend shooting an IR test film and having a close look at
the pics. If there is fogging from the curtain, it should be especially
visible in the darker parts of the print resp. the lighter parts of the
neg. To rule out reflection problems with the dimpled pressure plate,
you can put some kind of black self adhesive plastic foil or the like
over the backplate. This isn't the perfect solution for longtime use
because it increases the risk of scratches on the film, but for your
first films it will do.
Hope your camera will work - shooting IR is really great fun.
