Before you get a 870/1270; an undocumented requirement:

These only work with a handful of USB cards! Most built on/in usb ports are
not supported (it may or may not work). After months trying to get it to
recognize my usb port; replacing motherboard, deleting and re-installing
windows, driving my computer tech people insane, installing specific belkin
usb card... Epson support finally dug out that fact for me and decided that
I could always just run it on a parallel port. My answer (which they didn't
like) was that I use a cheap laser on that (parallel) port already that
doesn't require expensive proprietary inks. I told them this kind of info
needs to be on the box.

On the other hand - the prints from it are outstanding. The info is hard to
follow as to which is the problem (is it the ink or the paper). I print
most of my IR as duotone usually adding some yellow so I haven't noticed the
shift toward yellow... :) (Does this only affect the Epson premium glossy
paper) cause I've used everything but Epson paper... - dan

 Subject: Printers

I was planning to replace my Epson Photo 700 and I really wanted the new
Epson 2000P; however, budget considerations being what they are, I was
tending toward the Epson 870. Then I heard about the problems with fading
ink. Should I look at other printers, or is this printer ok if I stay away
from the Premium Glossy Paper? What do you think about the Canon BJC-8200?
Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Stan
